Recipes for dishwasher detergent are all over pinterest and the internet.  After browsing through several different recipes, I ended up adopting one that my mom has already been using for several months now.

Dish Detergent:

2 cups Borax
2 cups Washing Powder
1/4 cup Salt (optional- I have nasty well water so I chose to include it)

Rinse Agent:

Vinegar (I bought a glass bottle of it)
Lemon Essential Oil (About 30 drops per bottle)
Dash of Rubbing Alcohol (helps them mix together if you choose to mix lemon into the bottle)

I use two Tablespoons of detergent per load.  Fill your rinse cup with the vinegar mixture.  It works great, and it’s way cheaper!
